America by Bicycle proudly offers the Great Lakes Tour
beginning in 2011. This amazing 15 day, 1,075 mile, figure 8 tour of Great Lakes Erie and Ontario features riding into the great, city
centers of Cleveland, Toronto, and Kingston, fabulous vista views of both lakes, 4 scenic ferry rides, as well as, riding past Niagara
Falls, Cleveland Brown Stadium, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and many more attractions. Lock your cleats in for the ride of your life.
This tour begins, ends and includes a rest day by one of the worlds most magnificent natural wonders - Niagara Falls. First we
circumnavigate Lake Erie by riding along the Welland Canal to Port Colborne, where you may see a huge laker bound for Lake Ontario,
points further east or bound for Lake Erie and points as far west as Lake Superior. Heading west, we ride into the town of Port Dover
on our way to Simcoe. This tour has two one hundred mile days, one of which finds us riding into Leamington, Ontario, the home of Heinz
Ketchup. The following day we rest aboard the Pelee Island ferry as it takes us on a scenic cruise across Lake Erie to Sandusky Ohio.
As the ferry arrives in Sandusky, you catch a breathtaking, lakeside view of one of the best rollercoaster parks in USA, Cedar Point,
which may be the place you choose to end your day. As the adventure continues, you head east toward Cleveland, where you will ride
along the waterfront, seeing sights; Cleveland Brown Stadium and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before cycling on to Mentor, Ohio.
Continuing on past small marinas, we head toward Erie PA and then the city of Dunkirk, NY. We complete the Lake Erie journey by riding
into Buffalo, NY before crossing back into Canada for a ride along the scenic Niagara River as we head back to Niagara Falls for a well
deserved rest day.
Lake Ontario is the focus of our tour as the adventure continues through small towns and farmland east to Rochester, NY, known as The
Flower City and Imaging Center. Further east the terrain becomes more undulating as you head to the port city of Oswego, one of the
final stops of The Underground Railroad. Continuing north toward the St. Lawrence Seaway and Cape Vincent, NY, you will board a ferry
for a short ride to Wolfe Island, mid-point in the seaway. After a short ride across the island past wind farms, youll board another
ferry, bound for the historic riverfront city of Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Leaving Kingston, we roll through farmland and quaint
towns, enjoying another ferry ride on the Glenora Ferry on the scenic and historic Loyalist Highway as we head west to Cobourg,
Ontario, on our second hundred mile day. The bustling city of Toronto is our focal point and next destination as we stay in the center
of the city. Leaving Toronto on our last day, we ride along the a beautiful waterfront trail and watch Toronto fade into the distance.
We will leave Lake Ontario and head west, at Port Weller, where the Welland Canal enters Lake Ontario. We are now in sight of our final
destination, Niagara Falls as we pass by scenic orchards and vineyards. What a thrill it is as you realize another goal, you have just
completed riding around 2 of the Great Lakes!
