The Ride the East - North Tour will begin in New Hampshire's
northern most seaside city of Portsmouth. Before we head south, take a few miles and pedal over
the Piscataqua River and touch the northern most state in the east, Maine. Now we really get
rolling. We'll head inland away from the ocean, cross into Massachusetts and traverse the
Merrimack River Valley. Through the Seven Hills region of Worcester, we'll climb Dead Horse Hill
and you'll learn the history and the "Legend". The terrain continues to roll as we pass through
rural America. We'll conquer another state as we cross into Connecticut and spin in and around the
Connecticut River Valley and overnight in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The terrain will kick up
longer and steeper as we cross into New York. We'll overnight in the original capital city of New
York in 1777, Poughkeepsie, high on a plateau above the Hudson River. The next day we'll cross the
Hudson and roll along in the foothills of the Shawangunk Mountains through New York. After Port
Jervis we'll follow the Delaware River into New Jersey. Pennsylvania welcomes us with terrific
scenic and rural cycling. We'll ride past through Amish country around Lancaster and ultimately
follow the Susquehanna River into Maryland. Things get exciting now as we pass many stately
mansions and countryside ranches as we roll to Rockville. Here we'll pick up the Rock Creek Trail
and quietly spin our way into our Nation's Capital via the National Park System. We ride right
into town and the middle of the action. Welcome to Washington DC!
