The
Ride the West tour is a scenic and challenging, fully
supported 23-day bicycle tour from Astoria, OR to Newport Beach, CA. From the beautiful Oregon
Coast and the majestic Redwoods of Northern CA, to the spectacular ocean views and inland valley
roads of Sonoma Valley, each day will be an adventure you will never forget. The tour will average
60 miles a day for under 1,400 miles and 2 days off days in Crescent City, CA and San Francisco, CA.
The
Ride the West tour will begin in Astoria and immediately
head south along the Pacific Coast. We'll cycle south through many small coastal
communities including: the art colony of Cannon Beach; Tillamook, the cheese capital of the world;
Newport, former home of Keiko; Old Town Florence and Gold Beach. The terrain is challenging
everyday, with some long gradual climbs, to steeper shorter climbs, but the scenery is
breathtaking.
After a day off in Crescent City, you will ride through the Redwood Forests, with
the Avenue of the Giants a highlight. After leaving the giant trees, you will get to climb the
famous Leggett Hill and work your way back to the ocean views. Highway 1 rolls up and down along
the coast. Next you'll experience many wineries as you again roll up and down through beautiful
Sonoma Valley.
Soon, you'll cross the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco and another day off. Leaving San
Francisco you will see some beautiful views of the ocean and enjoy the sights of Santa Cruz,
Monterey and the famous 17 Mile Drive through Carmel. We will head inland to Carmel Valley. See a
diverse part of the state, with a stop in Solvang -
known for its Scandinavian motif. From there it is back to the coast through Santa Barbara,
Malibu and Santa Monica. Finally, we'll pick up and ride some scenic miles on local bike paths
before concluding the tour at Newport Beach (Costa Mesa). This is a ride with a lot to offer and
something for everyone!!
